SKUAST-K PhD scholar awarded CSIR Senior Research

Tamana Khan, a PhD scholar in the Division of Vegetable Science at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), has been awarded the prestigious Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi.Tamana will begin her fellowship on August 1, 2024, joining an elite group of scholars selected from across India. Tamana is also a recipient of the esteemed Erasmus+ Overseas Fellowship, through which she underwent advanced training in Proteomics and Bioinformatics at the University of Padova, Italy, for a duration of four months.Her doctoral research focuses on “Molecular Insights to Understand Root Architecture in Relation to Drought Tolerance in French Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) Using Multi-Omics Approaches,” under the guidance of Prof Baseerat Afroza, Senior Scientist in the Division of Vegetable Science at SKUAST-K.Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-K, expressed pride in Tamana’s achievements and praised the Division of Vegetable Science for fostering academic excellence. He commended both Tamana and her supervisor, Prof Baseerat Afroza, for selecting a cutting-edge research topic that has led to national and international recognition.Prof Neelofar Banday, Dean of the Faculty of Horticulture, extended her congratulations, acknowledging the joint efforts in nurturing talent and promoting a research-driven academic environment.Prof Ishfaq Abidee, Head of the Division of Vegetable Science, congratulated the scholar and her advisor for their remarkable achievement and contribution to the university’s research excellence.
