NIT Srinagar Encourages Eco-Friendly Fitness Through Cycling Initiative

 The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar organised 75th edition of its flagship fitness initiative “Sundays on Cycle” at the institute campus, drawing enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, staff, and children.


The cycling event, organised to commemorate Common-wealth Day, was held on the Institute’s main circuit road and aimed at promoting physical fitness, environmental awareness, and community participation.


The rally was flagged off by Registrar Prof Atikur Rehman in presence of NSS Coordinator Dr Pramod Kumar Yadav, NCC Coordinator Dr Nitika Kundan, EBSB Coordinator Dr Ashok Kumar and other senior faculty members.


In his message, Director Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia said that reaching the 75th edition of the initiative reflects the institute’s sustained commitment towards wellness, sustainable living, and creating a healthy campus culture.


Registrar Dr Atikur Rehman highlighted the importance of cycling in promoting both personal health and a pollution-free environment on campus.


In-charge Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW), Dr Shashikant Kumar said the participation of children alongside faculty members and students reflected the spirit of inclusiveness and unity fostered by the event.
NSS Coordinator Dr Pramod Kumar Yadav said the continued success of the programme demonstrates the growing awareness among youth regarding health and fitness. ANO NCC Lt. Dr Nitika Kundan said such activities help inculcate discipline, leadership, and teamwork among students.


In the faculty and staff category, Dr Dasari Karthik secured first position, followed by Dr Manoj Kumar and Scientific Officer NIT Srinagar, Mustafa Zargar.
In the girls’ student category, Aishwarya Kichlu bagged the first position, while Priyanka and Mehr Un Nisa secured second and third places, respectively. In the boys’ category, Aakash emerged as the winner, followed by Syed Nimran and Kaiser.


Among wards of faculty above 10 years, Azaan Ilahi secured first place, followed by Syed Md Zayan and Aliza Fatima. In the below-10 category, Atif Ahmad secured first position, while Mohammad and Nandini Bhatt finished second and third, respectively.


A valedictory ceremony was later held at the Institute’s lecture hall, where winners were felicitated with trophies and certificates. Participation certificates were also distributed among other participants.
