Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday flagged off a Reading Marathon at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to fostering a strong reading culture and encouraging intellectual growth among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, writers, librarians, and book lovers from different parts of the Union Territory. The Reading Marathon was organised to inspire young people to cultivate the habit of reading and to highlight the role of books in shaping informed, creative, and responsible citizens.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said that reading is one of the most powerful tools for acquiring knowledge, developing critical thinking, and building character. He emphasised that books broaden perspectives, encourage innovation, and prepare young minds to contribute meaningfully to society.
He urged students to make reading a daily habit, noting that a strong reading culture is essential for academic excellence, lifelong learning, and nation-building. He also appreciated the efforts of educational institutions, libraries, and literary organisations in promoting literacy and creating opportunities for youth to engage with books.
The Reading Marathon featured interactive reading sessions, literary activities, and participation from readers of all age groups, creating an atmosphere that celebrated learning, literature, and the joy of reading.
