Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha attended a mega event in Srinagar marking National Sports Day 2026, held under the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat,” where he spoke at length about the values and lessons that sport imparts to individuals and society.
“Sport is Life’s Most Honest Teacher”
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said, “If you know me well, I would like to say one thing: sport is life’s most honest teacher. The playing field never lies. Rather, it tells you exactly where you stand today and what you need to do going forward.” He added, “There is no shortcut to success on the playing field. There is no place for excuses. There is only hard work, passion and your character. This is the real spirit of sport.”
His remarks resonated with the audience gathered at the event, which included students, athletes, sports officials, and members of the public who had come together to mark the occasion, observed annually to honour the legacy of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and to promote sporting culture across the country.
Theme of ‘Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat’
The event’s theme, “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat” — loosely translating to “India that plays will be an India that wins” — reflects the broader national push to encourage greater participation in sports at the grassroots level, with the underlying belief that a sporting culture contributes not only to individual achievement but to national development and character-building at a societal scale.
