The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council organised demonstrations of rowing, kayaking and canoeing at the Water Sports Complex in Basohli as part of the ongoing Basohli Utsav 2026, officials said on Wednesday.The event aimed at promoting water sports in the region and introducing local youth to these disciplines attracted a large gathering of sports enthusiasts, residents and visitors.
J&K Sports Council Secretary Tazayun Mukhtar said the initiative was part of the council’s efforts to encourage young people to take up water sports and develop their sporting potential.
“Through initiatives like Basohli Utsav 2026, our endeavour is to introduce local youth to professional water sports like rowing, kayaking and canoeing,” she said.Mukhtar said the council was committed to developing modern sports infrastructure, providing quality coaching and creating regular competitive platforms across Jammu and Kashmir to help young athletes excel at national and international levels.
The demonstrations were conducted with the assistance of Sports Council coaches. Sports Officer Central and Divisional Sports Officer, along with other officials, were associated with the programme under the overall supervision of the council secretary.
The initiative is part of the council’s broader efforts to promote sports, nurture local talent and encourage constructive engagement among youth across Jammu and Kashmir.
