J&K Police Hosts ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ Cycling Event to Promote Fitness

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Nitish Kumar flagged off the ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ cycle race in Srinagar, bringing together cycling enthusiasts of different age groups for a sporting event promoting fitness, community participation and a healthy lifestyle.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with people gathering early in the morning to take part in the cycling race. From toddlers to veteran participants, the event reflected growing interest in cycling and outdoor sporting activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

Organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Department, ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ aimed to encourage people to embrace physical fitness and active living while providing cycling enthusiasts with an opportunity to showcase their passion for the sport.

The early-morning gathering created an energetic atmosphere as participants prepared for the race. The event also highlighted the role of sporting initiatives in bringing people together and encouraging greater public engagement in recreational and fitness activities.

A participant expressed surprise and admiration at the enthusiasm displayed by people who had gathered early in the morning for the event.

“It’s quite amazing to see people getting up early in the morning for the cycle race. They called it ‘Pedal Through Paradise,’ which is being conducted by the Police Department. I am really very surprised to see the passion and inspiration, from toddlers to veterans, with everyone gathering on this road in the morning for the race,” the participant said.

The participant’s remarks highlighted the wide age range of people involved and the enthusiasm that sporting events can generate among local communities. The participation of people from different generations also reflected how cycling can serve as an inclusive activity, encouraging individuals to pursue fitness regardless of age.

Srinagar, known for its scenic surroundings, provided the setting for the cycling event, with participants taking to the roads in the early hours of the day. Such initiatives offer residents an opportunity to engage in outdoor activities while promoting awareness about the importance of regular exercise and physical well-being.

The event also underscored the potential of community-based sporting programmes to inspire young people to develop healthy habits. By bringing together children, young adults and older participants, the race presented a platform for people to share their enthusiasm for cycling and encourage others to take up physical activities.

The involvement of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Department in organising the event highlighted the department’s engagement with initiatives beyond its conventional law-and-order responsibilities. Sporting events can provide opportunities for constructive public interaction, strengthen community connections and encourage greater participation in fitness-oriented activities.

Cycling, in particular, is increasingly recognised as an accessible form of physical exercise that can support cardiovascular fitness, endurance and overall well-being. Public events such as ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ can help motivate people to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines.

The enthusiastic response to the race also reflected the importance of creating platforms where sporting interests can be nurtured and participants of different ages can come together around a shared objective.

With ADGP Nitish Kumar flagging off the event, ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ added to Srinagar’s sporting activities, bringing together cycling enthusiasts in an initiative centred on fitness, participation and community spirit.

The event served as a reminder that sporting activities can extend beyond competition, creating opportunities to inspire healthier lifestyles and build connections among people from different backgrounds and generations.
