Almond Blossoms Return to Badamwari, Signalling Spring in Srinagar

With the arrival of spring in Kashmir, the historic Badamwari garden has once again begun attracting large numbers of tourists and locals eager to witness the Valley’s first blossoms of the season. The blooming almond trees spread across the picturesque garden at the foothills of Hari Parbat signal the end of winter and the beginning of a vibrant spring in Kashmir.

Every year, the garden becomes a major attraction during the almond blossom season, drawing visitors who come to enjoy the serene surroundings, capture photographs and spend time with family and friends beneath the canopy of delicate pink and white blossoms.

To make this year’s season even more appealing, the Department of Floriculture has introduced several new additions and improvements.

Director Floriculture Kashmir, Mathoora Masoom, told Rising Kashmir that efforts have been made to further enhance the beauty of the garden and improve the overall visitor experience.

She said around 300 new almond trees have been planted to strengthen the garden’s floral landscape. “Between 30,000 and 40,000 lavender plants have been added, which are expected to bloom in May, creating another colourful attraction for visitors later in the season,” Masoom said.

Apart from the blossoms, visitors can also enjoy well-maintained lawns, decorative flower beds, water fountains and designated seating areas, providing a relaxing environment for families and tourists wishing to spend quality time in the garden.

To promote local horticulture and floriculture, several stalls have also been set up by local floriculturists where visitors can purchase seedlings, ornamental plants and flower pots.

The Handicrafts Department has installed stalls showcasing traditional Kashmiri handicrafts, enabling tourists to explore and buy locally made products.

Officials said such initiatives not only enhance the visitor experience but also provide an opportunity for local growers and artisans to promote their products.

Over the years, the almond blossom season at Badamwari has emerged as one of the most anticipated spring attractions in Kashmir, symbolising the Valley’s transition from the harsh winter to a season of colour, fragrance and renewed activity.

As the blossoms continue to unfold, the garden is expected to witness a steady influx of visitors in the coming weeks.
