In a spectacular celebration of nature’s hues, the historic Ghanta Ghar in Lal Chowk today bloomed into a riot of colors as the 3rd Gul-e-Dawood (Chrysanthemum) Show–2025, themed “Autumn Flower Festival,” was inaugurated by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.
The dazzling event — organized by SKUAST-Kashmir in collaboration with Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), and Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) — aims to promote floriculture, environmental consciousness, and the aesthetic beautification of Srinagar city.
The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Mr.Anshul Garg (IAS), while inaugurating the event, lauded the collaborative efforts of SKUAST-K, SMC, and SSCL in organizing the grand floral showcase at the city’s iconic landmark. He praised the initiative for transforming Lal Chowk into a vibrant floral hub, inspiring citizens to embrace eco-friendly practices and connect with nature through floriculture and sustainable landscaping.
The Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir, Prof. Nazir Ahmad, in his remarks, underlined the scientific and educational importance of the event, noting that floriculture plays a vital role in enhancing urban ecosystems and generating livelihood opportunities. He commended SMC and SSCL for their continued collaboration in city beautification and sustainable urban development.
The Commissioner, SMC, Mr. Faz Lul Haseeb (IAS), while addressing the gathering, said that the event symbolizes a shared vision of making Srinagar an environmentally vibrant and aesthetically appealing city. He added that such initiatives not only highlight the region’s floricultural richness but also spread awareness about urban greening and environmental stewardship among the people.
The Autumn Flower Festival features a breathtaking display of hundreds of chrysanthemum varieties, alongside artistic floral arrangements, themed gardens, and creative installations encircling the iconic Ghanta Ghar. The event drew enthusiastic participation from students, floriculturists, local florists, and citizens, turning the city center into a vibrant canvas of colour, creativity, and community spirit.
The flower show at Lal Chowk (Ghanta Ghar) is only a sample and inaugural event, hinting at the grandeur and bliss that the main Chrysanthemum Show at SKUAST entails. Ticket booking for the GRAND Chrysanthemum Show at SKUAST is now open, and the general public can purchase tickets to attend the event at the campus, which begins on 20th of this month.
The festival at Lal Chowk will remain open for public viewing in the coming days, offering residents and tourists alike a delightful opportunity to experience the charm of autumn blooms right in the heart of Srinagar.
