In a rare feat, renowned Gastrointestinal Surgeon Dr Mir Sammiullah performed a rare surgery at Star Hospital Sanat Nagar by removing 11 kg mass from abdomen of a patient from Banihal.
The surgery was performed for 8 hours and needed 10 pints of blood transfused to the patient. The patient is recovering well and when asked he thanked the doctor for saving his life.
When contacted Dr Sammiullah said the patient had a rare retroperitoneal mass(sarcoma) which was adherent to many abdominal structures .This has been a marathon surgery which carries a high mortality and operative risk.
