Kashmir Solidarity Day: A Narrative Built on Propaganda Countered by Reality

Propaganda by Pakistan. Every year on February 5, Pakistan observes Kashmir Solidarity Day, projecting itself as a defender of the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Through official statements, rallies and media campaigns. Pakistan attempts to internationalize the Kashmir issue. However, this annual observance increasingly appears to be driven more by political propaganda than by concern for the real welfare of Kashmiris.

Reality check. The ground reality in Jammu and Kashmir today tells a very different story – one of peace, progress and development. Over the past few years, the region has witnessed unprecedented infrastructure growth. New highways, tunnels, rail projects, power plants, and urban development initiatives have significantly improved connectivity and quality of life. These projects are not symbolic gestures but tangible investments that are transforming the socio-economic landscape of the region.

Tourism. Tourism in Kashmir is flourishing like never before. Record numbers of tourists from across India and abroad are visiting the Valley, boost

ing local businesses and generating employment. Hotels, houseboats, handicrafts, transport services and adventure tourism have created thousands of opportunities for Kashmiri youth. This revival of tourism reflects growing peace, stability and confidence in the region.

Agriculture and Horticulture – the backbone of Kashmir’s economy – are also seeing renewed growth. Government support for apple growers, saffron farmers, and other agri-based sectors has strengthened rural incomes. Skill development programs, start-up initiatives, and educational reforms are empowering young Kashmiris to shape their own future.

Reality of two Kashmir. Most importantly, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have clearly rejected violence and terrorism. Participation in democratic processes, increased school enrollments, entrepreneurship and community development programs show a decisive shift toward peace and progress. The narrative of un

rest promoted from across the border no longer resonates with the aspirations of the people on the ground.

In sharp contrast, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) continues to face serious developmental challenges. Despite Pakistan’s loud claims on Kashmir Solidarity Day, PoK suffers from poor infrastructure, lack of investment, unemployment, and limited political rights. The absence of effective policy implementation by the Pakistani government has left the people of PoK deprived of basic opportunities and genuine self-representation.

Kashmir Solidarity Day thus exposes a clear contradiction: while Pakistan focuses on slogans and propaganda, India is delivering development, stability and opportunity in Jammu and Kashmir. The region is no longer defined by conflict, but by growth, hope, and global interest.

Jammu and Kashmir is and will remain, an integral part of India—thriving, peaceful, and forward-looking. The reality on the ground stands as the strongest response to propaganda, proving that true solidarity lies in development, dignity and empowerment of the people.
