Kashmir continues to reaffirm its reputation as one of Bollywood’s most picturesque filming destinations, with yet another movie project commencing its shoot in the scenic tourist resort of Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
According to sources associated with the project, the shooting of a Bollywood film titled “Pashaan,” directed by filmmaker Ashish Kohli, has begun in Sonamarg. The film features actor Sumit Kaul and actress Namiya in the lead roles.
The shooting schedule is expected to continue in the tourist destination till March 17 or 18, with several scenes being filmed at different scenic locations around Sonamarg.
Sources said that a stage and shooting set have also been constructed in the nearby area of Gagangir, where some important scenes of the film will be shot in the coming days.
Over the decades, Kashmir has served as a preferred destination for Bollywood filmmakers because of its breathtaking landscapes, snow-covered mountains, lush meadows and pristine rivers. Several iconic films have been shot across the Valley, earning it the title of a “paradise for filmmakers.”
Locals in Sonamarg expressed happiness over the return of film crews to the area, saying such projects not only showcase the beauty of Kashmir but also create opportunities for local employment and tourism.
A local hotel owner said the presence of film crews brings a positive atmosphere and economic activity to the region.
“Whenever film shootings take place here, it attracts visitors from across the country. Tourists become curious to see the locations shown in movies, which ultimately benefits the tourism industry and local businesses,” he said.
Another resident welcomed the development and said the Valley has immense potential to become a major hub for film production.
“Kashmir has unmatched natural beauty. If more filmmakers choose places like Sonamarg and Gagangir for shooting, it will help revive tourism and provide livelihood opportunities to many people,” he said.
Tourism stakeholders also believe that the revival of Bollywood shoots in Kashmir will further strengthen the Valley’s image as a safe and attractive destination for travellers and filmmakers alike.
With the shooting of “Pashaan” underway amid the snow-clad peaks and pristine landscapes of Sonamarg, locals and tourism players hope the project will once again highlight Kashmir’s cinematic charm and draw more filmmakers and visitors to the region.
