Srinagar to Host Wushu Trials Ahead of 20th Asian Games

The Wushu Association of India (WAI) has announced that the selection trials for the upcoming 20th Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026, will be held at two venues: SKISC Srinagar (J&K) and Imphal (Manipur).

The preliminary trials for the Sanda (combat) category will be conducted at SKISC Srinagar from August 22 to 24, 2025, with weigh-ins and physical tests scheduled on the first day. The Taolu trials will follow in Imphal from August 25 to 27, 2025. Based on performances, WAI will shortlist eight athletes in Sanda and four in Taolu.

In collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), WAI will host bi-monthly Ranking Tournaments for the shortlisted athletes until the final team selection in June 2026. To boost performance, selected athletes will receive foreign exposure training and compete in international events between ranking tournaments.
A National Wushu Coaching Camp, backed by SAI, will begin in October 2025 and continue until the conclusion of Games. The first 45-day international training camp is slated for November 2025, with additional camps in February, May and August 2026.

WAI has a strong track record in the Asian Games, having secured 10 medals (2 Silver and 8 Bronze) since 2006. Notably, SKISC Srinagar recently hosted a 60-day national camp ahead of the 19th Asian Games, showcasing its readiness for such events.
