Strengthening Tourism Ties: Tourism Dept Hosts South India FAM Group

The Tourism Department on Saturday evening held an interaction and felicitation programme with a South India-based FAM group of travel agents who are already on a tour of Kashmir.

The group, comprising 20 travel professionals, was invited by the Director Tourism Kashmir for an introductory and feedback session at Hotel Arison Luxury, Hyderpora Bypass.

The programme began with an introduction session led by the Director Tourism, who welcomed the visiting delegation and thanked them for choosing Kashmir for their familiarisation tour.

He said such interactions help the department understand market expectations and address issues directly with travel professionals.

During the meeting, the Director Tourism gave a detailed briefing on the tourism sector of the Kashmir Valley.

He spoke about the Valley’s diverse tourism potential, including adventure tourism activities such as skiing, trekking, rafting, mountaineering, camping, and snow-based sports.

He also highlighted other major attractions including lakes, gardens, heritage sites, religious destinations, and emerging tourist circuits.

The Director said Kashmir today is safe, hospitable, and well prepared to host tourists from across the country. He said the government is continuously investing in infrastructure development, road connectivity, accommodation facilities, and tourism related services. “We want travel agents to experience Kashmir themselves and confidently promote it in their home states,” he said.

Members of the FAM group shared their experiences during the interaction. A representative of the group said they found Kashmir welcoming, organised, and safe for tourists.

He said the hospitality extended by local stakeholders and officials left a positive impression. “We will actively promote Kashmir tourism in our respective states across South India,” he said.

The delegation also expressed hope that the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department would visit southern states in the coming months to strengthen promotional activities and build long term partnerships with travel trade associations.

The programme concluded with a felicitation ceremony for the FAM group members. Tourism officials said such engagements are expected to boost tourist inflow, improve coordination with travel agents, and further strengthen Kashmir’s presence in key domestic markets.
