Under the guidance of Vikas Gupta, Director Tourism Jammu, and Aijaz Qaiser, Joint Director Tourism Jammu, the Directorate of Tourism Jammu organised a special trekking expedition on the picturesque Aithem-Pehad Devta trail to commemorate World Mountain Day. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 60 students of MAM College, aiming to promote eco-tourism, highlight Jammu’s rich mountain heritage, and encourage youth engagement with nature.
The trekking bus was flagged off by Pankaj Sasan, Deputy Director (Adm), Tourism Jammu, in the presence of Vishal Sadhotra, Assistant Director Tourism, Jammu, Amarpal Singh (SR adventure) along with other officials of the department. Officers emphasised the importance of safeguarding mountain ecosystems and fostering responsible tourism practices among young trekkers.
The participants covered the 7 km Aithem-Pehad Devta route, celebrated for its serene forest landscape and the cultural sanctity of the Pehad Devta Temple. The revered shrine, deeply rooted in local tradition, remains a symbol of the region’s spiritual ecology and draws both pilgrims and nature enthusiasts.
Students expressed keen interest in the natural and cultural heritage of the area, appreciating the department’s efforts to provide immersive outdoor experiences. The Directorate of Tourism Jammu reaffirmed its commitment to organising more such initiatives to promote adventure tourism and nurture environmental awareness among youth.
The event concluded with a pledge to further strengthen nature-based activities across Jammu’s diverse mountain landscapes, reinforcing the relevance of World Mountain Day as a reminder to cherish and conserve vital ecosystems.
