The 6th District Kupwara Yogasana Sports Championship 2025-26 was held on Friday at Indoor Sports Stadium, Handwara, under the banner ‘My Youth My Pride.’
The event was organized by the District Kupwara Yogasana Sports Association in collaboration with J&K Yogasana Sports Association and Yogasana Bharat. It was sponsored by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
The championship was inaugurated by Sofi Vilayath, SHO Handwara, who was the chief guest. Guests of honour included Zahoor Ahamad, Amir Rasool, and Nadhida. The event witnessed active participation from more than 300 students representing both government and private schools across the district.
Organizing Secretary, War Shahbaz said the aim of the event was to involve more children in Yogasana to promote fitness and discipline among youth.
“Our goal is to engage children in physical activity and make them aware of health and mental well-being. We are thankful to the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council for their continued support and encouragement,” he said.
Praising the efforts of Chief Guest Sofi Vilayath, Zahoor Ahamad, Amir Rasool, and Nadhida, War Shahbaz said their presence encouraged students and teachers alike.
“When I started yoga activities in the district, only a few students joined. Today, more than 350 children are part of this movement. This growth shows how awareness about yoga is spreading,” he added.
Several participants expressed gratitude to Secretary, Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, for her consistent efforts in improving sports infrastructure. “We now have proper indoor stadiums where we can train and compete,” said one student.
Another participant added, “Yoga has made us more confident and focused. We are thankful for this opportunity.”
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and appreciation awards to students, coaches, and schools for promoting yoga and healthy living in Kupwara.
