Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday reviewed the developmental scenario of Pulwama district and inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth over Rs 86 crore.The review covered Health, Rural Development, Education, Social Welfare, infrastructure, Public Works, Heritage, Tribal Development, Housing, rural livelihoods, Jal Shakti, Power, HADP, Horticulture, Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Industries, among other sectors.
Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Basharat Qayoom made a presentation on the functioning of key departments and major developmental priorities of the district.
MLAs from the district raised issues of public importance, which the Chief Minister heard and assured timely action on. Projects worth Rs 23.12 crore were dedicated to the public through e-inauguration. These included the NTPHC at Ratnipora, costing Rs 2.85 crore; augmentation of the Water Supply Scheme at Ratnipora at Rs 5.07 crore; PHC Newa at Rs 2.99 crore; road restoration works; additions to school infrastructure in Rajpora and Tral; the Milk Village at Sangerwani at Rs 3.35 crore; and a bridge over Lam Nallah costing Rs 4.54 crore.
Foundation stones were laid for projects worth Rs 63 crore, including road network upgrades, high-capacity bridges over Romshi Nallah and Batagund, a pasteurised compost unit at Kakapora and a ruminant-cum-disease diagnostic centre at Pulwama.
Omar directed departments to complete ongoing works expeditiously as the working season draws to a close. He laid particular emphasis on projects funded under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI), directing departments to ensure their physical and financial completion within the stipulated timelines.Highlighting Pulwama’s strengths in saffron cultivation and milk production, the Chief Minister called for greater focus on dairy value addition.
He directed departments to formulate specialised projects for processing raw milk into high-value dairy products, improve inter-departmental coordination and strengthen cooperative models to increase the earnings of dairy farmers and generate employment.
