Asmita Women’s Wushu League Launches in Srinagar, Showcases Female Talent

The Asmita Women’s Wushu League 2025 kicked off Tuesday at the Indoor Stadium Polo Ground here, drawing more than 600 athletes from across Jammu and Kashmir in a two-day event aimed at empowering young women through sport.

As per a statement, the league will run from 16th to 17th September 2025. The event witnessed an overwhelming participation of players, representing every district of Kashmir, along with athletes from three Khelo India Centres and one PMDP Centre.

The opening ceremony was graced by Kuldeep Handoo, Chief Coach of India and the first Dronacharya Awardee in Wushu from India, as the Chief Guest. Ranjeet Singh, the international footballer, was the guest of honour.

He was joined by the office bearers of the Wushu Association of J&K, including Mohammed Maqsood Rather (Joint Secretary), Ajaz (KIC Coach), Rameez Ahmad (PMDP Coach), and Irfan Ahmad Wani. A large number of parents, teachers, and well-wishers also attended to encourage the participants.

Addressing the gathering, Kuldeep Handoo commended the dedication and talent of the young athletes, interacted with them personally, and assured them that every possible facility, along with quality coaching, would be extended to help them excel. He motivated the players to remain disciplined and focused, underlining that such initiatives serve as stepping stones to success at the national and international levels.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mohammed Maqsood Rather, joint secretary of the Wushu Association of J&K.
