Breaking Barriers: Visually Impaired Rohi Jan Becomes Assistant Professor at Kashmir University

In a remarkable achievement, Rohi Jan, a 100% visually impaired woman from Hanjan village in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, has been appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at the University of Kashmir.

Her appointment is being hailed as a proud moment for the entire Kulgam district and a source of inspiration for the disability community across Jammu and Kashmir. Rohi’s journey is a powerful story of resilience, determination, and academic excellence against all odds.

Rohi said she began her education at a local private school in Hanjan. She later moved to Army School Behibagh, where she completed her 9th and 10th grades. For her higher secondary education, she joined Government Higher Secondary School Yaripora.

Rohi pursued her graduation at Government Degree College Kulgam. With hard work and dedication, she qualified the prestigious UGC-NET and JRF examinations. She is currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), one of India’s top academic institutions.

Her appointment has drawn widespread praise from educators, civil society members, and social activists, who see her as a role model for youth, especially those facing physical challenges.

They say her success sends a clear message: with perseverance and courage, no dream is too distant to achieve.
