CRPF 14th Battalion Concludes Youth Cricket Tournament, Boosting Sports Culture in Shopian

The CRPF 14th Battalion has successfully concluded its Under-16 Day and Night Cricket Tournament at the District Sports Stadium in Shopian, an initiative aimed at engaging local youth through sports and providing young cricketers a platform to display their skills.

The tournament brought together budding cricketers from the district, who competed across multiple matches held under both day and floodlit conditions — a rare opportunity for young players in the region to experience competitive night cricket.Speaking after the conclusion of the event, the captain of one of the participating teams expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. “I am the captain of the team participating in this tournament, which has been organised by the CRPF 14th Battalion. It has provided us with a great platform to showcase our talent and will be very beneficial for the youth in the future,” he said.

The tournament is part of the CRPF’s broader outreach efforts in Jammu and Kashmir, aimed at building stronger community ties and channeling youth energy into constructive and healthy activities. Sporting initiatives such as this have increasingly become a key component of the security forces’ engagement strategy in the Valley, helping bridge gaps between the forces and local communities while nurturing young sporting talent.

Officials associated with the event highlighted that such tournaments not only encourage physical fitness and discipline among young players but also give them exposure to a competitive environment that can help those with cricketing potential pursue the sport more seriously in the future.

The District Sports Stadium in Shopian witnessed enthusiastic participation from young cricketers, with local residents also turning up to support the teams, adding to the festive atmosphere around the tournament.

With the successful conclusion of this edition, similar sporting engagements are expected to continue as part of CRPF’s ongoing community outreach programmes across Jammu and Kashmir, reinforcing sport as a tool for youth empowerment and community bonding in the region.
