Seminar on Kashmiri theatre held at JKAACL.

In pursuit of restoring the pristine glory of theatre, Firdous Dramatic Club Srinagar organized a one day Seminar on “Koshur Theatre-Raath te Aaz” at Seminar Hall of J&K Academy of Arts Culture & Languages Srinagar on Saturday.
The Seminar was attended by young theatre activists, directors & actors.
In a statement Firdous Dramatic Club said that the aim of the seminar was to find those ways & means through which this dying heritage of the State could be revived. “Theater is a strong medium of Communication and by virtue of its creative prowess; it remains still the best medium for learning and entertainment. The Seminar got started with a paper written by Dr. Sohan Koul, who reminded the gathering, its rich past & put forth, a road map for its bright future,” the statement said.
Koul said that theatre can be created on commercial lines now as there is need to take the theatre to common people for their learning & entertainment. “The playwrights & Directors have to search a new idiom of theatre, which shall represent the present conditions of Kashmir & collective psyche of Kashmiri people,” he said.
After the paper reading, there was an interaction & every theaterist put forth his opinion in this regard.
Prominent among the doyens of theatre were Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Shafiq Qureshi, Farooq Sheikh, Reshi Rashid, Secretary Cultural Academy Muneer Ul Islam was the Chief Guest & former Secretary Cultural Academy Dr. Aziz Hajini, former Director AIR Himayun Qaiser were the guest of honor.
The function was organized before the commencement of Annual Drama Festival. This seminar was first of its kind and has been organized by a private theatre.
Director of Firdous Dramatic Club Hassan Javed said that such seminars will be organized on routine basis now and these seminars shall enrich our young theatre activist & shall elevate that frenzy state of mind which is required for better theatre tradition on world theatre day. “The theatre group is going to perform a play besides the live interaction on the same play which shall create a tradition of creative criticism to generate a genuine theatre in Kashmir,” he said.
On the occasion Firdous Dramatic Club awarded Dr. Sohan Koul an Award of H0onour.
