Department of Law, School of Legal Studies (SLS), Central University of Kashmir (CUK), organized a talk on “Career Planning in Judicial Services”, in which Principal Judge, family Court, Meerut, Mr. Irfan Qamar, spoke about ‘career in judicial services’ on Thursday and also organized an online extension lecture on “Excellence at Law School and Legal Profession” by Ms. Avani Bansal, Advocate Supreme Court, here on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Judge Mr. Qamar discussed judicial examinations conducted in the States. Underscoring the importance of learning the skill of ‘legal writing’ and ‘knowledge acquisition’, he said that candidates appearing for the judiciary examination are not serious and that is the reason why posts remain vacant. He encouraged the students to take up judiciary as an active career choice, and said, “Judges and Law students are on the same footing; both are good listeners, bound up in a proper uniform, and are always being taught- by teachers in case of students and learned advocates in case of judges”.
Dean, SLS, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, said, “Law students should take interest in judicial examinations rather than administrative ones as the former deals with the subjects related to their own course.” Prof. M Yousuf, Dean School of Life Sciences wished the students success in their future endeavors. Asst Profs Dr. Yasir Latief, conducted the proceedings, and Dr. Uzma Qadri, managed the stage while Dr. Shabina Arafat, proposed the vote of thanks.
Meanwhile, during the extension lecture on “Excellence at Law School and Legal Profession”, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, stressed on the internship, practical training programmes so that the students get benefited in the court of Law.
Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, emphasized the participation of students in experience learning, vocational training skills such as mooting and participation in the legal literacy programmes.
Dean, SLS Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, spoke about Ms Bansal’s achievements as being the advocate on record in the Supreme Court and an author of the book “Life At Law School”.
In her lecture, Ms. Avani Bansal, spoke about the biggest law firm, Magic Circle Firms in the UK, as to how they recruit budding lawyers. She impressed on her participation as a law student in every internship offered during her law career and emphasized on the importance of legal education as to how it trains you to think like a specialist and be the best lawyer.
The lecture was followed by the Question-and-Answer session. Asst Profs. Dr Rehana Shawl, delivered the welcome address, Dr. Mudasir Bhat, gave introduction of the speaker while Dr. Anil Kumar, Sr. Asst Prof proposed the vote of thanks.
