DC Budgam Unveils ‘Classes of Joy’ Programme for Students

Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan on Monday chaired a meeting on roll out of the Classes of Joy initiative in Budgam district to address the gaps in learning outcomes among the kids in primary and middle schools of the District.

The initiative aims to adopt Teaching at Right Level (TaRL) approach in partnership with Pratham Foundation. The action plan for elaborate capacity building and training of all primary and middle school teachers has been prepared. Appropriate teaching and learning tools are being made available.

The initiative will adopt a 4-step process of baseline assessment of all children, grouping on the basis of learning levels, play way teaching interventions over next three months and then the end line assessment. The cycles would be then repeated to ensure the gaps are filled and kids achieve the class-appropriate learning outcomes.

A comprehensive follow-up, monitoring and support mechanism has been put in place. More than 850 schools, around 4600 teachers and around 45,000 children are being covered in this major initiative.

The meeting was attended by ADDC Budgam Vivek Agarwal, JD Planning, Chief Education Officer, ACD Budgam, Zonal Education Officers, Zonal Planning Officers, District Coordinators and representatives of the Pratham Education Foundation.
