Empowering Women, Transforming J&K: LG Sinha Honours 32 Leaders

I believe that today’s occasion—I would indeed call it a historic occasion. We can call this a revolutionary moment—one that will likely determine the direction of the future. We are honouring 32 extraordinary women who, over the past six months, have kept the torch of courage, creativity, and leadership burning with complete dedication, said the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha. I am delighted that, in a very short span of time, this organization-Kashmir Women’s Organization has earned the distinction of becoming a powerful hub of hope, trust, and positive change. I would like to congratulate all of you from the bottom of my heart for this. Through your collective cooperation, this organization has accomplished the highly significant and praiseworthy task of uniting women from the fields of literature, art, education, entrepreneurship, social service, and social causes—along with various other sectors—under a shared objective. And I believe this fellowship is also the embodiment of that visionary thinking. I believe that over these six months, those 32 fellows must have also challenged the orthodox notions that have long viewed women’s capabilities as limited. By paving a new path through your work—one that many talented women and girls will follow in the coming months—you have made a contribution that will not be limited to the present; instead, it will serve as a foundation of inspiration, confidence, and guidance for future generations, LG said. History records the names of many queens who not only worked to foster the consciousness of Jammu and Kashmir but also made invaluable contributions to its development through their exemplary deeds. We have many such examples before us, and I want the leadership of Jammu and Kashmir’s development to be in the hands of women. I am also confident that the Kashmir Women Organisation’s fellowship program will spread the idea of women securing equal participation and dignified opportunities across all spheres of public life—social, cultural, economic, and political. The Fellows have worked on several subjects. The campaign against substance abuse that Dr. Fida Firdaus recently launched… I feel that some Fellows should also work on understanding the reasons why our young women and sisters across different regions—such as North Kashmir and South Kashmir—are falling victim to substance abuse, and why they are turning towards it. I think this study will be very helpful in their rehabilitation process. I envision a Jammu and Kashmir where every girl grows up breathing the conviction that her dreams are deeply valuable, her voice is powerful, and there are no limits to the possibilities of her future. Today, out of the startups in Jammu and Kashmir registered with the Ministry of Commerce, more than 300 are led by women. At the convocations of universities in Kashmir, I have observed that, on average, it is our young women who are securing 75% of the gold medals. I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the President, office bearers, and all members of the Kashmir Women’s Organization; your foresight and dedication have created a platform that will serve as a medium for positive change in the lives of countless women in the years to come, added the Lieutenant Governor.
