First ever Blossom Festival at SKUAST-K’s Shalimar Campus begins..

The Blossom Festival of SKUAST-Kashmir began at Main Campus, Shalimar, on Tuesday. A celebration providing a platform for students and the public to learn and appreciate diversity.

The main theme of this Blossom Festival is to provide platform to the public and student to enjoy and witness the diversity that is existing within Kashmir. The orchards, gardens and parks of the Sher-e-Kashmir Agricultural University at Shalimar owing to the full bloom bears the festive look.

The students and public at large attending the festival do enjoy a good interaction with the scientists, teachers and agriculture students who demonstrate to them ultra-high-density orchards which are in full bloom currently besides the orchards of different varieties of cherry and other nut crops.

Once we capture the students young and make them understand the futuristic agriculture that will be a precision agriculture, automation and robots and drones based agriculture. Such exposure gives an insight to visiting students, the future agriculture, entrepreneurs said Director Extension/Education SKUAST-K, Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi.

The festival is a hallmark of agricultural excellence, witnessed the active participation of students and SKUAST trained entrepreneurs from Valley. During the event, stalls were installed by entrepreneurs showcasing technologies developed by University and value added agri-products have been put on sale for visitors.

The festival promises a five day’s long immersive experience, inviting all to gain valuable knowledge regarding educational opportunities, discounts and deals, engagements in community and civic activities, promotion of creativity and environmental awareness on topics like sustainable gardening practices, conservation efforts and the importance of bio-diversity and raising awareness.
